Al Gore Speech 5/26/2004
Wrap Up

On one hand, I'm not all that thrilled to abandon a project underway, that is, the fisking of Al Gore's speech to MoveOn.org. On the other hand, one of my elite squad of readers has told me that nobody cares what this loser says. From an electoral standpoint, if Kerry only gets the votes of the Bush=Hitler crowd Gore was whipping into a frenzy, he'll lose the election in Biblical proportions. To paraphrase Ben Kenobi, "who is the greater fool, the fool, or the fool who fisks his speeches?"

I'm certainly sick of it. Dr. Weiner's anti-Bush nonsense was a masterpiece of reason and rhetorical writing by comparison. I wonder if Gore wrote this speech himself. It has the stench of somebody who fancies themselves a good writer, but is capable only of tortured prose.

Calling Gore a lousy writer is not enough, though. Gore was once the mainstream Democratic party. I fear that rather than plunge headfirst into the insane fringe of the Democratic party, he is actually leading the frenzied lunatics to the surface after nearly twelve years of being crammed underground by Bill Clinton's "centrism".

This is why I started working the speech over in the first place. Gore represents a sizable chunk of the talent pool from which Kerry will draw functionaries for his Administration. For this reason it is critical to understand fully what they think in the harsh light of common sense.

Gore's thesis is that George Bush is too arrogant to lead this nation, and that arrogance has created an environment for abuses such as Abu Ghraib. Gore believes that the Bush Administration is riddled with incompetent liars, many who should resign.

Gore's evidence for Bush's arrogance - that he ignored the advice of many, is stupid. No executive could possibly be expected to accommodate all dissenters, even if every dissenter were motivated by pure intentions. There is command responsibility to be had for Abu Ghraib, it doesn't extend to the Administration, at least not like Gore says.

Gore's evidence of the Bush Administration's incompetence is equally absurd. Terror attacks are down nearly by half since 2001, and more important, there hasn't been a major attack on US soil since 2001. Iraq is most definitely undergoing seismic problems, but 41,000 Iraqis are alive that would have been dead under Saddam just this year. Further, Iraqis are quite optimistic that their future is bright, hardly the result of incompetence. Supply and personnel issues are only screwed up if measured against perfection. In historical terms, this campaign is nearly flawless. Consider that over 700 men died when practicing the invasion of Normandy.

The real truth is that the Bush Administration has accomplished something truly remarkable. After a horrible assault, they have drained two swamps where terror was allowed to breed. In addition, the economy is growing at a robust rate. Global terror is down, hope is out of her box. Bush should be proud of these accomplishments, and Gore should be ashamed of his partisan sedition.
