Palestinian "Right of Return"

From Michael Rothschild, editor of The Progressive

"George W. Bush's embrace of Ariel Sharon's unilateral plan to maintain large settlements in the West Bank spells doom for any peace settlement in the medium future. So, too, does Bush's repudiation of the Palestinian right of return."

Rothschild goes on to lament that thirty years of US policy went "out". Good riddance, I say. American's attempts to bring peace to this particular conflict have met with failure after dismal failure. Only an idiot would think that Arafat can be dealt with in good faith.

The liberal left have an infantile view of history, in my experience. In the past, any time one nation kicks the ass of another nation, the loser LOSES something. In this case, when the Allies kicked the Axis's ass, all those who lined up behind Hitler and Hirohito were faced with a victorious power looking to reshape the face of things.

Those are the breaks.

After WW2, Jews are given a little postage stamp of a country. Over time, the Arab world tries several times to destroy the fledgling democracy in an ocean of tyranny. In one particular case, the amassed Arabs warn their brethren living in and around Israel to get out of the way, that they are going to push the Jews into the sea. Thousands got out of the way, perhaps anticipating a rich reward in the aftermath of an Arab victory.

The problem is, the Jews won.

Normally, refugees like this would find their way into the borders of the defeated nations, and find new lives like hundreds of other populations displaced by war throughout history. This time, however, the nations surrounding Israel hate Jews more than they love the refugees. "Palestinians" could have been relocated at any time in the last several decades, but they better serve as a perpetual albatross to hang around Israel's neck.

Worse, the Palestinian culture has mestaticized into a lunatic death-cult. That leftists like Rothschild think people who will dress their infants up like suicide bombers can be negotiated with is a demonstration of their ignorance of the horrible realities of history.

The Arab world is a vast patchwork of despot dystopia. Israel is a tiny democracy socialist. While I can understand wanting to hold a western nation to a higher standard of conduct, the history of this conflict demonstrates that the only right of return the Palestinians and their Arab brothers want is a return to a Judenrein middle east. Arabs have tried, and continue to try, to destroy Israel. I see no reason why this miniscule democracy should be expected to perpetually bear it's throat to those who yearn wistfully for its demise.

The left completely fails to understand that if people who start wars or back the wrong side are allowed to go back to the way things were, there is no incentive to forbear taking up arms. Giving the losing side their lost spoils will only embolden them to keep trying.
